When you dialyze overnight in a DaVita® center, you can open up your days for work, school, family – and are still able to get the benefits of having a dedicated care team. Your team monitors your treatment while you sleep and meets with you during waking hours to manage your care. This team is made up of highly skilled professionals who will work with you to help achieve the best-possible dialysis results.
Nephrologists are doctors who specialize in kidneys. Your nephrologist will visit you during your nighttime treatments and schedule appointments with you anywhere from once a week to once a month. During these visits, she or he will assess how well you're doing on dialysis and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment.
Your technician cares for you before, during and after your dialysis treatment, staying with you during your overnight treatment. You will likely spend the most time with this care-team member.
Your nurse administers your dialysis treatment along with your care technician. Your nurse can assist you with resources, educate you on ways to stay healthy (including maintaining your access), answer questions and work with you to help make sure you get the most from your treatment.
Your dietitian plays an important role in helping you feel healthy. After all, what you eat and drink greatly affects your body—especially during dialysis treatment. Your dietitian will develop a personalized nutrition plan based on your lab reports, then provide you and your family with kidney education and diet tips. You'll likely meet with your dietitian at least once a month to review your plan.
Your social worker helps you adjust to life on nocturnal dialysis. After assessing the social and medical aspects of your life, he or she will address any of your transition concerns, and provide resources for additional support. You can call your social worker anytime, and you will meet with him or her at least once a month.
Your insurance specialist can help provide resources and answers for insurance concerns you may have -- including financial resources that may help pay for treatment and medications. Call 1-855-5-Dialysis for assistance or fill out the form.
Your facility administrator (FA) oversees the center's daytime operations. Your FA may stay late to visit with you before your treatment, and may occasionally supervise the nighttime shift.
